The latest villains in the increasingly absurd pantheon of woke baddies is, umm, dogs.
Article content
According to The Cut, reporting on increasingly hostile relations between dog owners and those without, one wokester claimed that canines are actually “settler-colonialists” who are gentrifying New York’s neighbourhoods.
Open warfare then broke out on X.
One now-deleted post was: “Dogs in large cities are essentially settler-colonial — a way for their owners to move into and occupy more of the urban space than they are allotted while making it everyone else’s problem.”
This came as a shock to one Queens woman who owns two terriers. Mia is a Latina and noted that one post on her community Facebook group suggested that dog poo is “gentrifying the neighbourhood.”

She told The Cut: “Are they saying that only white people have dogs?”
Another woman told the website she was filmed by someone in a Brooklyn park: “She was asking me why I thought I was special, why my dog didn’t need to be leashed. Was it because of my white privilege?”
The term “settler-colonial” is a newish term popular in lefty circles. It encapsulates virtually everything, The New York Times reported.
But according to The Wall Street Journal, the phrase has gone from offering giggles to people over age 30 to something more sinister. It has become the gold standard for anti-Israel protesters relating to the war on Hamas.
“Settler-colonial” is often used in conjunction with phrases the Anti-Defamation League calls anti-Semitic.

However, the good news is that the “settler-colonial” puppy tweet’s author has been pounded on social media. The tweet has since been removed.
One user wrote: “How do you feel about homeless people who privatize public sidewalks with their tents?”
Another added: “Saying ‘settler-colonial’ when you mean ‘kinda rude’ is awful.”
Before taking down the tweet, the original’s author wrote: “To be clear, the synthesis of this is that trying to create a policy around ‘good dog owners’ and ‘bad dog owners’ is nonsensical.
“We need to pass common-sense supply-side policy to maintain an agreed-upon amount of dogs in major cities through licensing and registration fees.”
